Two Long Island store clerks have been accused of selling vaping products to minors. Operation “Vape Out” was implemented on Tuesday, Nov. 26 at various establishments known to sell vaping products in the county, according to Nassau County Police detectives. As a result of the initiative, detectives utilized underage agents (persons under the age of 21) to purchase age-restricted products. Two people were arrested for selling vaping products to minors during a sting operation titled "Vape Out." The operation was carried out on Thursday, Oct. 10, by using underage agents (under the age of 21) working with detectives from the Narcotics Vice Squad, said the Nassau County Police. A new state ban on the sale of flavored e-cigarettes has been put on hold for two weeks by a state appellate court just hours before it was set to take effect. Judges granted a temporary restraining order Thursday, Oct. 3, that prevents the state from enforcing the ban of flavored e-cigarettes following a lawsuit filed by Vapor Technology Association, a Washington D.C., based trade group. A Long Island teenager has filed a class-action lawsuit against an e-cigarette company, claiming that it used old school advertising methods to manipulate consumers into using their products. State's First Death From Vaping-Related Illness Reported In North Jersey
New Jersey's first death associated with a vaping-related illness has been reported by the state's health department. The woman's death was reported to the health department in August and is under investigation by Department of Health Acting Commissioner Judith Persichilli. There are 12 confirmed cases of serious vaping-related lung disease in New Jersey, and two probable cases -- including this death. Nearly three dozen shops on Long Island were cited for selling vaping products to minors during an undercover Suffolk County Police Department investigation.
